The R1™ is designed for outdoor installation, and other extended temperature applications that require an operating temperature range from –20° to 70° C. The R1 chassis uses a flexible design that makes it easy to install in set-top, wallmount, or rackmount environments.
The R1 provides two expansion slots in a compact steel chassis that includes a fanless processor, high-speed memory, dual 10/100 ethernet port, and flash storage with no moving parts. Using add-on network cards, the R1 can route multiple IP networks using fractional and full T1 or E1, 56/64K DDS, basic rate ISDN (BRI), wireless, ethernet, and 56K dial-up modem connections.
The R1 runs on the ImageStream Linux™ router distribution, which provides support for NAT firewall security, IPsec and SSL VPNs, quality of service (QoS), VLAN tagging, VRRP for LAN failover, dynamic routing, packet filtering, bridging, peer-to-peer traffic control, and more. ImageStream Linux also includes the Inetics platform, which provides a tightly integrated Linux kernel, management software, and the Inetics Driver Component Architecture (IDCA). IDCA supports WAN protocols including PPP, Cisco HDLC, frame relay, ATM, and SoftCell
